| I posted the following on MySpace, but I thought there might be some people who still xanga, who might not be on MySpace. So this is for you, if you still try to see what's going on with me, even though I don't really xanga anymore...
Summer days... drifiting away...
Current mood: numb
So for those of you who might care, and I haven't already talked to, I thought I'd fill everyone in on my plans for the summer.
I
got a job with Open Dorr Family Resource Center, located at Dorr
Elementary School. I'll be working at their Summer Camp 2008, which is
a Day Camp "designed as an Enrichment Camp."
Here is the description they sent out: Our
overall theme is "Express Yourself Through the Arts." The objective of
the program is to create a greater awareness of the arts and forms of
expression. Areas of study will include visual arts, music, creative
movement, dramatic play, reading, and outdoor recreation. Our curriculum
plan is centered around seven weekly themes. [Farm, Fairy tale,
Patriotism, Gardening, Old West, 1950's, and Beach/Ocean]. The teachers
have collaborated their ideas to effectively design activities that
will engage, stimulate, and inspire young artists. Hands-on activities,
multi-sensory experiences, and lessons that involve motion of the whole
body will allow students to make meaningful connections in the
classroom. Students will gain self-awareness, improve communication
skills, and develop problem-solving strategies. By the end of the
program, each student will have developed a portfolio of work and
participated in a showcase of performances.
My job, is
that I will be in charge of the drama study. So basically I will be a
drama teacher for 7 weeks. I will have drama class 4 times a day, each
with a different group of kids. And when I am not teaching drama
activities, I will be in charge of one of those groups of kids-
consisting of 10-15 children at any given time. I will be their leader
during outdoor recreation, lunch, breakfast, snack time, and reading
time.
Kids will be between the ages of 5/6 and 10/11 years old.
I'm currently in the process of designing activities.
The
camp officially begins on June 16th and is Monday-Friday 7am until 3pm.
I have to go in the week before to collaborate with other teachers/
leaders.
That is the biggest chunk of my summer. I am
also currently taking a summer class, Horror Film, which is a pop
culture class. It runs Monday and Wednesday from 6pm till 9:30pm or so.
That class goes until June 26th or so. Then starting June 30th, I will
be taking Abnormal Psych which is also Monday and Wednesday 6-9:30 pm.
I will also be taking an online class, Food in American Culture.
The camp will end Friday, August 1. I will have one more week of classes after that, and graduation will be August 9th.
I
will have to move out of my apartment the week after graduation. To
where is still yet to be determined. When I am not working or doing
school work, I will have to be searching for post-grad jobs, and places
to live.
I would also like to take the GRE sometime this
summer, because I think I would like to go to grad school for library
science in a year or two. I am also in the process of preparing for
that test.
What does this mean to you?
If any one
wants to try and hang out with me this summer, once June 16h rolls
around, it might become more difficult. I will be in BG all summer,
except when working in Toledo. Weekends would be the best time to see
me. Otherwise I will most likely be available after 4pm Tuesdays,
Thursdays, and Fridays. Although, I will not be able to stay out too
late on weeknights. So 80's night, and $1 well wednesdays at Nate and
Wally's probably won't be possible.
I will probably update the news feed as things develop.
I'm
really nervous because this summer is gonna be really big for me, there
will be a lot of things going on, and a lot on my mind, and a lot I
will have to do. However, I'm trying to keep my head on straight, and
keep myself from going crazy with stress, and still want to have fun
this summer. So, friends, feel free to help me out with that!
Wish me luck! and try to keep in touch!
